Prison time may induce a process of intellectual production. The books in this library are full of ideas about the world and how to shape its future: amongst them are some of the worst and most horrific, some that were tried and failed, and others that invite further thought. Letters and descriptions of life in prison are also amongst the clearest mirrors reflecting the nature of our society. The installation is thus a proposition articulated in the form of a demand: that prisoners be assured the physical and intellectual conditions to read, write and be published. The collection will thus circulate between different prisons and finally be made available as a public library in London.
